After spending 3 days in the Galapagos, we boarded our plane and headed to Guayaquil Ecuador. We would have liked to spend some more time in the islands, but schedules were preset and off we went. The first day we had to ourselves to explore town followed by an evening walking tour of the waterfront areas. Of course we had to detour a little to grab a couple Geocaches, but hey, an addiction is an addiction and we wanted to score a few more in Ecuador. We had a wonderful dinner at a restaurant that our tour guide recommended and a bus ride back to the motel.

The next morning we were up again at O:Dark Thirty heading to a little fishing village called Puerto El Morro. The subject of today's adventure was primarily Dolphins, but of course every adventure has a side track/hidden story involved and today it was hoping we made it back without the boat sinking. If you look at the pictures you will notice dry rot and flaking paint everywhere, as well as a hundred year old Yamahoppy 150 that for the most part kinda ran but the tiller handle had been broken so the throttle was run with the right hand on the console while steering with the custom bent galvanized pipe left handed. When it died, and it did often, the skipper had to take the shroud off as the return on the pull start rope was broken and coil the rope around the starter pulley manually. Of course every time it started there was enough smoke to kill half the mosquitoes in the estuary which was not all that bad of a thing after all... I guess everyone else was watching dolphins and never did notice the bailing with a gallon milk jug every 30 minutes or so. Anyway, a good time was had by all, we didn't sink and we saw enough dolphins to fill 3 hours worth of picture taking.

After a 3 hour bus ride back to Guayaquil we were pretty much spent so we had dinner and a good nights rest. Next morning we did not have anything on our schedule so we had the day to explore town ourselves. One of the highlights was Parque Seminario (or Parque de las Iguanas), a park dedicated to the Iguanas. This place had them all over the place, as well as turtles and fish in the ponds. We also took the aerial tramway across the river to AEROVÍA Durán and back again to within 2 blocks of our motel. We had a confusing early dinner at the hotel (mostly due to lack of organization of the tour company) and that was it for our time in Ecuador. We had to call it a short day because we had to get up at 2am to catch a 4:30am flight to Panama for the first leg of our trip back home. From Panama to Houston, then on to Seattle and driving back to Bend for a 2 day turnaround and next.... Off To Florida for our Western Bahamas adventure!
